Early Childhood Development/Family Literacy Teacher Opening!

Refugee Family Literacy Program in Clarkston is seeking an early childhood development/family literacy teacher to join our dynamic team of educators. RFL is a unique family literacy program that provides early childhood education to children ages 0-5 while their mothers study English on site plus daily family literacy sessions with mothers and children together.
The mission of this position is to care for and support the early development and language acquisition of young children, help parents teach/support their children, and coach children and mothers in family literacy practices. In addition to classroom instruction, this job involves the building and support of a unique community at RFL and commitment to the family literacy model which brings in various curriculum elements to the children's classroom and PACT time. Teachers plan classes for and teach both adults and children as part of this model in partnership with other children’s teachers at the school.
Minimum Qualifications
B.A. or C.D.A. in Early Childhood Education or related field
Experience working in a multicultural setting preferred
1-2 years of classroom experience

Salary is $20 per hour, 17-18 hours per week, approximately 30 weeks per year (August-May). Classes meet from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and teachers are onsite 8:30/8:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. each day plus some afternoon meetings. In addition to teaching class on these days, teachers attend two general staff meetings per month plus weekly teaching team meetings, conduct about 5 home visits in students’ homes with partner teachers each semester, attend several trainings each year (including some online training), and participate in the life of our community.
